Better Call Arctera

The launch of Arctera sees the Data Compliance, InfoScale and Backup Exec businesses spun out from Veritas into a new standalone company. What’s the advantage of a spinoff?

When Vince Gilligan created Better Call Saul as a spinoff from Breaking Bad, he said he did it so that the character could expand further than he could within the confines of the original story. The theory was, with more space and focus, he could create something just as impressive as the show that Better Call Saul was born out of.

The same concept applies to Arctera. Our three product business units have been great within the Veritas family. But, we believe, if we showcase them in a vehicle of their own – if we truly focus on them – we can create a new industry powerhouse.

That’s why Data Compliance, InfoScale and Backup Exec are each going to be run as their own businesses within Arctera. It will allow us to give that focus.

What does focus look like for Arctera?

1. It means each business unit has its own engineering team, with only one objective – to build the best possible product to solve your data challenges.
2. It means each business unit has its own go-to-market team who are specialists in exactly what your team is trying to achieve.
3. It means each business has its own strategy, its own goals, and its own agency to realize them.

We are all-in on this strategy. Our products are already recognized as industry leading by some of the world’s most influential analysts and we will continue to invest heavily to defend that position. Arctera employs a 1,500 strong team, and the biggest contingent are in the product organization. We’re investing for success, but not in a ‘one size fits all’ way.

With each product, we will focus our innovation the things that serve those customers best, for example; further automating the mundane using AI in Data Compliance, simplifying the experience around Backup Exec, and cloudifying InfoScale.

I’m not saying that Arctera will get nominated for 55 Emmy Awards, like Better Call Saul. I am saying that we’re working hard to earning the People’s Choice awards from our users and customers.
